Longsa, a village of Mokokchung also has an interesting story about humans and a malevolent spirit called ‘Awa’. In Longsa, parents left their children at home and went to work in the fields during the day, when the spirit would take away the children. The villagers could not understand the reasons for such mysterious disappearances. So, they tied red threads on the children before leaving them alone. Later they found the red threads floating in the river. This bad spirit was then driven away by the Shamans. The spirit left the village but every year one person from the village is taken away by the river.
